SIP T1 Service Providers
Compression enables SIP T1s to include up to twice as many voice lines without loss of call quality. Virtual DIDs enable companies to appear to have a local presence in other locations of the US, by providing local phone numbers for these locations. Several SIP packages can include international virtual DIDs as well. With an international DID, a company in the US can have a phone number that is local to another location of the world. When that number is called from that location, it rings to the company’s US location like it is a local call. With international virtual DIDs, companies located in the US can appear to a have local presences in many other countries of the world. Another advantage of SIP T1 is that is can be available to any location that it is available over a private bandwidth circuit, or a pubic (internet) circuit. The major advantage SIP over the private circuit of a SIP provider is that the provider can and will ensure priority of voice packets as they travel across their network, until those packets reach the PSTN. This results in perfect voice quality. The major advantage of SIP over the internet is that locations that traditionally could not obtain voice T1 by providers other than their local telephone company, will now have extremely cost effective alternatives, if they are willing to accept that voice quality may not be equal to voice traffic carried over a private network. SIP is available over either T1 or DS3. (Click here to return to top of page)
T1 Data (Internet), an Introduction
Writen by: Dennis Green
A T1 data line is a high speed, 1.54 megabits per second (Mbps), circuit which is comprised of 24 individual DS-O circuits. Each DS-O channel has a speed of 64 kilobits per second (Kbps). For perspective, your home telephone line is likely a DS-O line. T1 data lines are also at times referred to as DS1 circuits. T1 data is carried through two twisted pairs of copper wires. Virtually, all residences and businesses currently have two pairs of copper wires running to them. T1 lines are capable of delivering 1.54 Mbps simultaneously in both directions, one direction for each pair of copper lines. Because T1 data service is repeater driven (signal is digitally reestablished every 6000 feet), it is available several miles from telephone central offices. For this reason, T1 service can be available to virtually all of the businesses in the US. T1 lines are dedicated, in that they are always connected, and are also extremely stable. Most reputable providers include service level agreements which guarantee the reliability of the T1 lines they offer. Although the term T1 is commonly used when referring to a dedicated high bandwidth connection to the internet, T1 circuits can transfer data in many forms to accomplish a variety of functions. These include: fractional t1 (commonly 128 Kbps to 756 Kbps), burstable (less expensive for companies which normally do not need a full DS1/T1), integrated T1 (one T1 line comprised of any combination the types of DS1/T1 listed here), channelized DS1 (one form of integrated T1), point-to-point (direct and constant DS1 connection between to locations), dynamic integrated (a more state-of-the-art alternative to channelized integrated), local (local phone service), PRI, MPLS (multiprotocol label switching), and frame relay. Each of these types of DS1/T1 has advantages over the others, depending on the specific needs of your company. Also, the availability of each is based on the offerings of each T1 provider and the geographic location.
